Many of our courses can be adapted for in-house delivery and can be specifically tailored to meet individual needs.

Sometimes due to reasons beyond our control a course has to be cancelled or postponed.  We will advise nominating officers and applicants immediately of such a decision.  Please note in exceptional circumstances we may have to make changes at short notice to the content (to reflect changes in legislation, current thinking or topical issues), timing, speakers and/or venue.

Action Learning Facilitator  (ILM Endorsed Programme)

This course is for delivery on an in-house basis. Content is described below.

Description:

This three-day event is for officers working in Local Government who want to improve their knowledge and skills in setting up and running an action learning programme.  The first two days are run consecutively followed by a break during which time you are encouraged to arrange a facilitate some Action Learning Set meetings.  Day 3 focuses on reflecting on your practice and action planning for developing your skills.

Aim:

At the end of this course, participants will understand the role of action learning in the workplace. Participants will explore methods of facilitating and reflect on their practice in setting up and running an action learning programme

Content:

 The principles of action learning

  • The nature and background of action learning
  • Different perspectives and schools of action learning
  • Types of facilitative approaches
  • How action learning can improve the performance of individuals, teams and the organisation

 

Practical facilitation skills
The key to being a good Action Learning facilitator is practice.  We want participants to go away and set up an action learning set, so we will help them prepare for this through practising the skills in a safe and supportive environment.  Each participant will facilitate a session for approximately one hour and all participants will offer peer feedback to help develop individuals

 
Self-evaluation, reflection and forward planning
  • Reflecting on your facilitation of an action learning set and practice
  • Creating an action plan for your action learning practice
  • Evaluating action learning and your learning experiences

 


How is it assessed?

Assignment 1:  a written account of your understanding of action learning
 
Assignment 2:  the action plan created as part of day 3
