Many of our courses can be adapted for in-house delivery and can be specifically tailored to meet individual needs.

Managing Unauthorised Gypsy & Traveller Encampments

Description:

Primarily suitable for specialist officers from local authorities and the private sector working with Gypsies and Travellers, including those who have a responsibility for the formulation and implementation of Gypsy and Traveller policies within their local authority.  The course will also be of benefit to elected Members, planners, social inclusion officers, police, social services and health workers.

Aim:

To examine changing legislation, case law and practice, relevant to the management of unauthorised encampments and unauthorised developments. This event also provides a valuable opportunity to establish relationships and interact with others who are involved in this area of work.

Content:

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • understand how changes in legislation reflect upon existing local authority Gypsy and Traveller policy
  • describe current central government policies
  • recognise policies that address issues and permit solutions to common day to day problems
  • understand what powers apply when managing unauthorised encampments and planning enforcement, and the consequences of getting it wrong
  • understand the planning system and relevant policies for the provision of private Gypsy sites
  • appreciate the issues and implications involved in multi-agency working to ensure adequate provision of social welfare responsibilities
