Managing Authorised Gypsy & Traveller Sites

Primarily for those concerned with managing Gypsy and Traveller sites on a day to day basis and for anyone who has controlling responsibilities for Gypsy site managers and council policy over this area of work.  It is also suitable for organisations involved in the management and provision of Gypsy and Traveller accommodation.

To examine legislation and practice relevant to the management and provision of Gypsy and Traveller sites and authorised occupations.  This event also provides a valuable opportunity to establish relationships and interact with others who are involved in this area of work.


On completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • list the aspects of good site management and practice
  • identify good working practices that site managers should embrace
  • understand the basis of budget management that needs to be exercised by site managers
  • comprehend Health and Safety issues, including matters of personal safety and site safety for residents
  • understand the law relating to Gypsy and Traveller accommodation and how to apply it
  • understand and describe the lifestyle and traditions of the Gypsy and Traveller community and provide a legal definition of a Gypsy
  • appreciate the factors involved in effective site design
  • list the affects of, and remedies for, anti-social behaviour
